Characteristics of Laminated Glass
Overview
Laminated glass, also known as safety glass (VSG from German: Verbund-Sicherheitsglas), consists of two or more glass panes bonded together using one or multiple interlayers:
- PVB – Polyvinyl Butyral film
- EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) – a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate
By varying the number and thickness of the individual layers, laminated glass with different physical properties can be produced. We manufacture laminated glass according to the PN-EN 12543 standard and issue Declarations of Performance in compliance with national and EU requirements, allowing its use in the construction and installation market.
The family of VSG laminated glass products manufactured at Dubiel Vitrum primarily includes:
- Flat laminates made from float glass (3-19 mm), low-iron glass, body-tinted glass, chemically etched glass, mirrors, sandblasted glass, patterned glass, and coated glass with hard coatings
- VSG glass with transparent, matte interlayers of varying transparency (e.g., Cool White, Arctic Snow), PVB Vanceva colored interlayers, Sound Control interlayers, and EVA colored interlayers
- Bent laminates
- VSG glass with fully painted surfaces inside the laminate
- VSG glass with graphics inside the laminate (UV printing)
- Laminates with additional inserts – decorative elements inside the glass, such as metal meshes, fabrics, decorative materials, paper, or printed PVC films
Glass laminates can consist of various combinations of float glass in thicknesses ranging from 3 to 19 mm:
- Non-tempered (annealed)
- Tempered (ESG)
- Semi-tempered (TVG)
A commonly used industry notation for laminated glass consisting of two panes of equal thickness is XX.Y, where:
X – Thickness of the glass in millimeters
Y – Number of interlayers with a nominal thickness of 0.38 mm
Example: Float glass VSG 66.4 indicates two float panes #6 mm thick and four interlayers of 0.38 mm each (or two interlayers of 0.76 mm each).

Ice Glass
Ice glass (cracked, crashglass) is a VSG laminated glass consisting of three layers of float glass with a thickness of 6+6+6 mm or 8+6+8 mm. The middle layer is made of toughened ESG glass, which is intentionally shattered, while the outer layers of annealed glass remain intact. Ice glass is a safe, decorative glass featuring a highly visible fine crack pattern (shattered glass effect).
